Major Search Milestones Established

At its September meeting, the Board of Regents met with its executive search consultants and began discussing key leadership characteristics to guide the search for the University’s 18th president. Major milestones for the presidential search, and the target dates to complete them, have been established as follows. Specific dates, times, and locations of public forums and Board meetings will be shared when they are available.

  • At its October 2023 meeting, the Board will appoint and charge the Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC). It will also continue its discussion of key presidential leadership characteristics.
  • In mid- to late-October 2023, the PSAC will host listening sessions on each campus to gather input that will inform development of the position profile.
  • After the profile is finalized, the candidate recruitment period will commence and extend through the end of the calendar year 2023.
  • The PSAC will complete its work and recommend lead candidates to the Board of Regents for consideration in late January 2024.
  • At its February 2024 meeting, the Board will discuss lead candidates in a de-identified way and select finalist(s) for public interviews.
  • Open forums with finalist(s) will be held systemwide in mid-February 2024.
  • The Board will interview finalist(s) and select the next President of the University of Minnesota in late February 2024.
