Board of Regents names finalists in presidential search

The Board of Regents has named three finalists in the search for the University of Minnesota’s 18th President:

Now in its final stage, the national search for the University’s next president has featured broad engagement with the University community. That will continue as each finalist visits the University of Minnesota’s five campuses to meet with students, faculty, staff, and community members in the days ahead. A full schedule of open houses and public forums is available on the search site. Each finalist will also participate in a public interview with the Board of Regents on Monday, February 26.  See the February 9 systemwide message from Chair Mayeron.

Board to review four lead candidates, select finalists for public interviews

The Board of Regents will consider four lead candidates recommended by the Presidential Search Advisory Committee, and select who to invite for public interviews, at its regularly scheduled meeting on Friday, February 9.

Under the Minnesota Data Practices Act (Minn. Stat. 13.43, subd. 3), an applicant’s identity is private until that applicant has been invited to interview by the appointing authority – in this case, the Board of Regents. As a result, the Board will discuss individual candidates without identifying them at their February 9 meeting.

The names of finalists, and the schedule for public forums and interviews with the Board of Regents, will be announced the afternoon of February 9.

The February 9 meeting will be open to the public, live streamed online, and video recorded. Links to the live stream and recording will be posted on the Board of Regents website

PSAC completes first-round interviews

The Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC) has completed interviews with twelve presidential candidates selected from 46 applicants. The applicant pool, which included candidates from a variety of backgrounds, was 89% men, 11% women, and 39% BIPOC individuals. Interviewees included three women and nine men; one-quarter were BIPOC.

The PSAC has recommended four lead candidates to the Board of Regents for its consideration at the Board’s February 9 meeting. See the January 24, 2024 systemwide message for more information.
